NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A man who tried to rob a Mid-City hamburger restaurant, got more than what he bargained for when police say the workers attacked him.
New Orleans police say the suspect, Ismael "Mike" Naranjo, 43, walked into the Bud's Broiler on City Park Avenue Sunday just before 11 p.m. and told workers he was robbing them.
According to investigators, Naranjo was able to go behind and counter and take the money from the register. Shortly after that, police say the workers attacked the man and recovered some of the money.
Naranjo was able to get up and jump into a nearby 1996 white Dodge pickup truck with Louisiana license plate number X961346.
Detectives learned Monday morning around 3:30 a.m. that someone was sitting inside of a white pickup truck bleeding from the head in the 700 block of Howard Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and called for EMS. They recognized Naranjo's description. He was taken to the hospital.
Once released, he will be booked with one count of first degree robbery. Officers believe the suspect is responsible for similar robberies in the third district.
