MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) - State police are investigating the weekend death of former district attorney investigator Sam Gebbia.
Gebbia, whose name came up in a recent grand jury investigation, died in a two-car accident on Interstate 12 Saturday at 11 p.m., just east of Highway 1088.
State Police said the 69-year-old was ejected from his pickup truck, after it was rear-ended by a Toyota driven by 54-year-old John Gold of New York.
Gebbia, who was called to appear for a grand jury investigation last month, was not wearing his seatbelt, and pronounced dead at the scene. He was a former investigator under Walter Reed. Another former investigator, Louis Dabdoub Jr., was recently indicted for making false statements.
"This investigation is handled like any other investigation. We're thinking of the family and making sure we do a strong investigation, regardless of who is involved," Trooper Dustin Dwight said.
Gold was not injured in the accident. He voluntarily submitted to an alcohol test, which came back negative, and was issued a summons for careless operation.
The St. Tammany D.A.'s office is also investigating.
The Metropolitan Crime Commission said Gebbia's death, should not affect the case against Dadboub.
