NOPD connects teenager to more crimes 1 day after his arrest

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A New Orleans teenager accused of hiding an attempted armed robbery suspect at his residence is now charged with armed robbery and possession of stolen property.

NOPD detectives booked Lorenzo Elliot, 17, on Tuesday after they say he hid hid a teenager who allegedly tried to rob a 14-year-old girl of Christmas presents.

In the armed robbery incident, a 45-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife were driving in a 2007 black Camera on Willowbrook Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Someone in a red van attempted to cut the couple off. The victims continued driving to their home.

Once there, the victim noticed the red van parked nearby. A man with a light complexion and medium length dreadlocks got out of the passenger side of the van, pointed a silver gun at the driver's side window and demanded the victim's belongings, police said.

The victims complied and the suspect got back into the van and drove away.

Two days earlier, a 32-year-old woman told police her red 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was stolen from the 5500 block Read Boulevard around 5 p.m.

Investigators identified Elliot as a suspect in both incidents. Detectives said they saw Elliot parking and exiting the stolen vehicle near a home in the 7500 block of Marquis Street, where it was later recovered.

Elliot remains in Orleans Parish Prison.
