NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Just 24 hours after Euric Cain allegedly shot Tulane Medical Student Peter Gold, he's accused of robbing, kidnapping, raping and carjacking a couple in the Desire neighborhood. Now police are investigating Cain as a possible suspect in other recent crimes.
Cain, who has been jailed for the Nov. 20 shooting and attempted kidnapping in the Lower Garden District, was booked Wednesday on the new charges.
"He seems to prey on people who wander off, who are not in complete control of themselves," Marie Kastler said.
Kastler lives near the intersection of St. Phillip and Henriette Delille streets where police said Cain kidnapped a couple. Kastler admits it can be a rough area of Treme.
"It's people who come from out of the Quarter to come across the street looking for trouble or perhaps just wanting to see the neighborhood they've seen on TV," she said.
According to new court documents, on Nov. 21 around 3 a.m., a man and a woman were getting into their car which was parked near the intersection of St. Phillip and Henriette Delille streets when a man armed with a gun jumped into the back seat of the vehicle and demanded their cash and credit cards.
Police said the suspect, believed to be Cain, ordered the woman to drive about four miles away to a parking lot near an abandoned school at Abundance and Press streets. The male and female were ordered to the back seat of the vehicle where the suspect raped each one separately at gunpoint, according to court documents.
Afterward, the couple was told to get out of the car and that they would be killed if they called police.
When detectives later arrested Euric Cain for allegedly shooting the Tulane medical student, they said Cain was driving the couple's Ford Focus with Ohio plates. When the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab made a positive DNA match from the raped woman to Euric Cain, he was booked for with the additional crimes.
