NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Wisner Bridge construction project begins today.
The bridge, on Wisner Blvd near City Park along Bayou St. John, will be closed for about a year.
Crews will demolish the old bridge and replace it with a new $19.5 million span that will include bike and jogging lanes. The new span will increase in width from 57 to 65 feet.
Detours for drivers will begin Thursday morning.
Riverbound traffic on Wisner will be sent to Harrison Avenue. Lakebound traffic will detour at Desaix Boulevard.
