JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Jefferson Parish deputies say people who plan to drink alcoholic beverages during the holiday season should not drink and drive.
Due to the increase in drunken-driving fatalities around the holidays each year, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office will be taking part in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. The JPSO participates in the Louisiana Highway Safety Grant.
Each year on average, more than 10,000 people die on the road due to drunken driving. The Sheriff's office says it will conduct increased impaired driving enforcement throughout the holiday season. Deputies hope this will help prevent alcohol-related injuries and deaths. The added patrols begin on Dec. 18 and run through Jan. 3.
