Causeway Commission gets estimate on projects to improve bridge safety

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - People behind a plan to make safety improvements to the Causeway bridge have a better idea of how much the project could cost.

After testing ways to improve railings, a new estimate suggests it will cost as much as $40 million to attach two steel rails atop the concrete retaining walls on the southbound side.

According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, it would cost $63 million to add sections of shoulder to both sides of the bridge.

Bridge officials have been studying possible improvements, which could prompt a toll increase.
