Man arrested for breaking into multiple businesses

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police have arrested a man wanted for breaking into multiple businesses. Police took 31-year-old Jarret Guy into custody Tuesday, in the 7100 block of Crowder Boulevard.

Police say that Guy was responsible for breaking into the Daiquiris & Company in the 6300 Elysian Fields Avenue Tuesday morning. Around 4 a.m., Guy was captured on video surveillance breaking into the business after he pryed the front doors open. He then broke into a locked safe and took and unknown amount of money before fleeing in a white Chevrolet Suburban.

Officers responding to the burglar alarm at the business noticed the SUV speeding away and began to chase. The chase proceeded to the 7100 block of Crowder where Guy got out of the vehicle and attempted to run away. While running, Guy dropped several envelopes containing money. He was later taken into custody.

Detectives learned that the vehicle Guy was driving was reported stolen from the 5100 block of Saint Anthony Street in November. Through video and physical evident, they also connected Guy to a Dec. 6 burglary at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the 10,000 block of South I-10 Service Road and a separate burglary at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the 4100 block of Chef Menteur Highway, which occurred last week.

Guy was booked with multiple counts of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle and numerous traffic charges. Detectives are working to determine if Guy was responsible for any additional area burglaries.

If you have any additional information that could help police, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
