NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

An unmarked State Police unit took gunfire Friday as it was following a stolen truck in New Orleans East, according to LSP spokesman Evan Harrell.

According to Harrell, at about 7 p.m., a plainclothes LSP unit on proactive patrol saw a pickup truck driving erratically near the Winn Dixie on Chef Menteur Highway. Troopers in the unmarked Chevrolet Impala ran the license plate and found the truck was stolen.

The troopers followed the truck, waiting for marked LSP units to conduct a traffic stop. The truck pulled into the Winn Dixie parking lot and two black males got out and went into the store.

When they subjects exited the store, troopers continued to follow the truck as it drove out of the parking lot. When the truck reached the intersection of Marques and Grant Drive, someone in the stolen truck opened fire at the unmarked Impala, striking it at least three times. Troopers were not able to return fire, and the pickup fled into a neighborhood.

The troopers sustained minor injuries.

Troopers are searching for a 2014 black Chevrolet pickup and the two occupants. The stolen vehicle is a 2014 black Chevy pickup truck with Louisiana license plate C183499.

CrimeStoppers is offering up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of the shooting suspects. Callers do not have to give their name or testify to receive the reward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact LSP Troop B at (504) 471-2789 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
