New Orleans hit with 6 armed robberies in under 12 hours

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Reports from NOPD say that there were six separate armed robberies in New Orleans in less than 12 hours.

According to a preliminary report from NOPD, six armed robberies were reporting in New Orleans from about 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 11 until just after midnight the next day.

The first robbery reported occurred in New Orleans East around 1:30 p.m.. According to NOPD, a 67-year-old woman was walking near the intersection of Dwyer Road and Viola Street when an unidentified, armed man approached her from behind and demanded her purse. She complied and the unknown gunman fled the scene.

The second armed robbery reported came in around 7:47 p.m. in Broadmoor. Three men, one armed with a gun, came up behind a 31-year-old woman in the 4100 block of General Pershing Street according to NOPD. The armed robber told the woman to give up her phone, keys and purse. She did and the three robbers left.

Minutes later, a 62-year-old woman was robbed in Algiers. According to NOPD, an armed man approached the woman in the 1700 block of Elizardi Boulevard then pointed a gun at her face and demanded her purse. She gave up the purse and the gunman fled.

Then, around 8:30 p.m. in the 7th Ward, a 30-year-old man was carjacked near the intersection of North Tonti and Allen Streets. Police say the man got out of his car, but left the engine running. When he came back, an armed man was sitting in the driver's seat and pointed a gun at him before driving away. The stolen car was in a wreck later that night near the intersection of St. Claude and France Street.

The next armed robbery occurred in the 9th Ward around 10 p.m. Police say a 68-year-old man was getting out of his vehicle in the 4500 block of North Roman Street when two men approached him. One man held the victim at gunpoint with a black, semi-automatic handgun while the other searched his pockets. They took $100 and fled the scene.

The final armed robbery reported took place around 12:23 a.m. on Dec. 12 near the intersection of St. Ann and North Galvez. A 31-year-old woman's neighbor pulled a revolver on her and demanded money. She gave him $35 and he fled the scene.

No injuries were reported in any of the robberies.
