Boys, ages 11 and 14, booked in Gentilly armed robbery

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The NOPD has arrested two males, ages 11 and 14, for robbing two other males, ages 8 and 13, Sunday in Gentilly.

At around 1 p.m., the victims said they were playing basketball in the 5500 block of Lafaye Street when four subjects approached them. One of the subjects asked one of the victims if he could ride his bike. When the victim said no, one of the subjects raised his shirt and revealed what appeared to be a pistol in his waistband. The victims ran off, leaving their bikes. Two of the subjects jumped on the bikes and rode off while the other two fled on foot.

The victims ran to their homes and called police.

During the course of the investigation, Officer Patrick Crowley saw the suspects and the bikes near the intersection of Eads and Mendez streets. Crowley detained both until the victims arrived on the scene and positively identified them. A plastic air gun was found in the waistband of one of the suspects.

Both suspects were booked into the Juvenile Division and with armed robbery.

The two other accomplices remain unknown and at large.

The Third District Investigative Unit is in charge of the ongoing investigation and can be reached at (504) 658-6030.
