CHALMETTE, LA (WVUE) - Too warm to fish? No. Too warm for the fish? Yes.
Organizers have postponed the next "Get Out and Fish!" event at Sydney D. Torres Park in Chalmette until January 16.
That's because the water will be too warm in the coming weeks for wildlife agents to stock 600 pounds of rainbow trout. The species needs cooler water to survive.
The event is free and hosted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. St/ Bernard Parish and the St. Bernard Sportsman's League.
It offers fishing activities for all ages.
Participants may compete in different age categories for the heaviest rainbow trout and heaviest other fish caught.
The program aims to recruit new anglers to the sport of fishing.
