INDEPENDENCE, LA (WVUE) - An Independence man shot his estranged wife and another man and then turned the gun on himself late Tuesday night, according to the Independence Police Department.
Around 10:20 p.m. , Independence police responded to a call about a shooting at Angie's Bar on Highway 51 North in Independence. When officers arrived, they found three adults on the floor suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police say Thomas Ransom was inside Angie's bar when his estranged wife April Ransom and the man she was living with Joseph Cormier showed up to the bar.
Witnesses told police Thomas Ransom summoned April Ransom, who walked over to speak with him.
Witnesses say they spoke briefly before April Ransom began to walk away.
It was at that point, police say, Thomas Ransom shot his estranged wife, then walked over to Cormier and shot and killed him.
Thomas Ransom then walked back to his wife's body before turning the gun on himself.
Police say no one else was injured. But there were other people in the bar who witnessed the entire incident.
Both April Ransom and Cormier were shot several times with a semi-automatic handgun. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.
April Ransom was reportedly living with Cormier, according to Independence Police Chief Frank Edwards.
A family member said the two had been living together for about two weeks.
Thomas Ransom, who lived a few blocks from the bar, leaves behind three children, the oldest of which is 15, Edwards said.
He did not share those children with April Ransom, who had two adult children of her own from another father.
Child Protective Services has been contacted to help relocate Ransom's children.
A review of video surveillance backed up witness accounts of the incident.
There were no other injuries at the scene.
The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office processed the crime scene at the request of Independence Police.
