NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans Police release a surveillance picture of a man they say stole liquor bottles from a New Orleans East store by putting them in his purse.  Officers say he also pepper sprayed an employee before getting away.

The incident happened Tuesday night at the Rite-Aid store in the 5900 block of Read Boulevard.

Investigators say a loss prevention employee noticed the man putting high dollar bottles of liquor in his purse. When the employee approached the man, officers say he began punching the employee.

Officers say the man pepper sprayed the loss prevention employee, then took off in a Nissan Armada with a pink t-shirt covering the license plate.

Investigators say the employee suffered a broken finger. The man is wanted for theft and second degree battery. If you recognize the man in the surveillance picture, you're urged to call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
