(WVUE) - If you use it all the time, or only occasionally, those metro New Orleans motorists who like I-610 will need to find an alternate route this weekend.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will close I-610 eastbound, beginning at 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18 ending Monday, Dec. 21, at approximately 5 a.m.
DOTD will be replacing 10 expansion joints.
The work will require the removal of a portion of the roadway across to make the installation of the new joints easier.
Roads contract and expand with temperatures. Expansion joints allow for that movement. DOTD replaced expansion joints on the westbound lanes last month.
Commuters that normally exit I-610 at West End and Canal Boulevards should take I-10 east to the Metairie Road /City Park Avenue exit.
Traffic that would normally exit on I-610 at St. Bernard Avenue should take I-10 east to the N. Claiborne Avenue exit and those that would normally exit at Elysian Fields Avenue or Franklin Avenue should take I-10 east to the Elysian Fields exit. All through traffic will remain on I-10 east.
Westbound I-610 will remain open.
