NEW SARPY, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana will likely start 2016 with more residents compared to the start of this year.
The U.S. Census Bureau estimates 21,734 people grew the state's population between July of 2014 and July of 2015. That puts the state's population at 4,670,724 people.
The census estimates do not breakdown population growth by parish.
Washington, D.C. and 43 other states experienced a population growth spurt at the same time as Louisiana.
Mississippi is among the states, losing residents. It lost about 1,110 residents during the time period evaluated.
