METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - As the hours of the holiday shopping season wane, shoppers flooded the malls to pick up some last-minute gifts.
Some people said the trip is actually more about people-watching.
"We watch crazy people and fun people and have coffee and beignets," Elizabeth McIlwain said.
Other people were trying to find that last-minute gift before the bell tolls.
"We'll see what happens, if I can find something through this chaos," said Jose Aleman, who was shopping for his father.
The stores are thankful for the overwhelming shopping season, meeting and beating goals before the year's end.
"All the days leading up to Christmas, we've been doubling, tripling our sales, so it's been crazy here," said Maddie Clarke, who works at Apricot Lane,.
Lakeside Mall closes at 6 p.m. for the holidays and reopens Saturday when store workers expect large crowds with returns.
