Pedestrian killed, by allegedly intoxicated driver on Christmas

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Police arrested a 26-year-old man on Christmas night after he allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle while intoxicated

According to NOPD, Jeron Wheeler struck and killed a 45-year-old man near the intersection of General DeGaulle Drive and Garden Oaks Drive around 10 p.m. on Dec. 25.

Police say Wheeler was driving eastbound on General DeGaulle Drive when he struck the 45-year-old man, who was crossing the street. EMS pronounced the unidentified victim dead on the scene.

NOPD officers conducted a DWI test on Wheeler at the scene, which he allegedly failed. Officers arrested Wheeler for Vehicular Homicide as a result.
