NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Euric Cain, the man accused in the attempted murder of a Tulane University medical student is due in court today for a hearing on separate charges of kidnapping and rape.
Those charges stem from accusations Cain kidnapped and raped a couple at gunpoint in the Desire neighborhood.
Police say a couple got into their car on St Philip and Henriette Delille Streets in the Treme. Cain is accused of jumping into the back seat and ordering the couple to drive to an abandoned parking lot in Desire, where he then raped them at gun point.
The day before, Cain is accused of shooting Tulane medical student Peter Gold in the stomach and then trying to kill him after gold intervened to stop him from kidnapping a woman in the Lower Garden District.
After Cain was jailed, he was reported to have attempted to injure himself. He was placed under 24-hour observation.
Today the court will decide if there is enough evidence for the rape and carjacking case move forward. Police say they already have DNA evidence linking Cain to the crime.
