COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) - An 18-year-old man showed up at the emergency room Tuesday night suffering from a gunshot wound.

Covington Police say the victim, Kawon Moore, told them he was walking on Emily Diamond Way near the intersection with 29th Avenue when he heard a pop and felt a stinging sensation in the middle of his chest.

Police say he ran back to the apartment where he was visiting friends and they took him to the hospital. Doctors report Moore's injuries are not life threatening. Police say it appears he was shot by a small caliber weapon, possibly a .22 or pellet gun. X-rays reveal the projectile is lodged under the tissue.

Police say Moore told him he didn't see anyone or any vehicles in the area when he was shot. Police say they found a small amount of marijuana in Moore's possession. He was issued a misdemeanor summons for the contraband.

Covington Police are asking the public for any information about the incident. Call 985-892-8500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP if you can help solve the case.
