NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Police believe a man found dead Friday morning on the West Bank was dragged there from the French Quarter in a brutal hit and run.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. near the intersection of Dumaine and Decatur Streets. Witnesses said a car hit a pedestrian and did not stop. The unidentified vehicle then turned on to Madison Street, going against traffic, before turning on to Chartres Street. NOPD believes the car continued to drag the man's body from the French Quarter all the way to US 90B West just before the General De Gaulle off ramp.
A driver spotted the victim's body in the middle of the road and called police around 3:34 a.m. Officials pronounced the victim dead on the scene.
Police are now asking for the public's help to identify the car and driver responsible. The car is described as a black, four-door sedan with tinted windows. Police obtained surveillance images of the vehicle but do not have a description of driver.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NOPD fatality investigator Anthony Pontiff at (504) 658-6237 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
