JPSO: Arrest made in New Year's Day murder

AVONDALE, LA (WVUE) -

An arrest has been made in the New Year's Day murder of a 32-year-old man.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies arrested 19-year-old Michael Ennis for the murder of Joseph Washington.

The alleged murder occurred just after midnight on Jan. 1 in the 300 block of Senate Drive. According to JPSO, Ennis and an unidentified black male walked up to Washington and opened fire as he talked to a woman outside of her car. The woman was not injured.

Ennis was booked with First Degree Murder in connection with the incident, as well as Possession of Stolen Things and two attachments for failure to appear in court from unrelated incidents.

Police say Ennis has a lengthy criminal history with arrests for Narcotics offenses, Theft and Weapons violations.

No new information has been released about the second unidentified shooter.
