Kenner breaks ground a new bike and pedestrian path

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - Kenner city leaders broke ground Monday to start the first project in the Kenner 2030 program, which includes several construction projects aimed at improving major areas throughout the city

At Vintage Dr. and Power Blvd., Mayor Mike Yenni helped kicked off the Erlanger Rd. project, announcing that the median between Vintage Dr. and the lake will be upgraded to feature a pedestrian and bike path with lighting, landscaping, public art and other amenities

Yenni said he hopes the changes will attract millennials to the area

"The millennial generation is the walkable, bikeable, mass transit generation. They like to be able to take their family and go with their friends and get on a bike and ride to UNO and beyond," Yenni said. "We want to make sure that they have that accessibility. We want to show that the suburbs definitely have a place in the greater New Orleans area to attract that younger generation."

Construction on the $830,000 project is slated to start within the next seven days, and should take about nine months to complete.
