ST. TAMMANY PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The North Shore K-9 injured months ago after chasing down a suspected burglar returned to work Thursday.
The St.Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said for the past four weeks, Thor has been going through a rigorous training and testing program. After meeting all the necessary requirements, he is back to full duty.
The K-9 deputy was stabbed by a burglary suspect in October 2015 and is credited with saving the life of his best friend and partner, Deputy Ron Olivier. Investigators say during the ordeal, the Belgian Malinois instinctively placed himself in between the deputy and the attacker.
Thor went through several surgeries to recover after he sustained stab wounds to the neck and chest .
The St.Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said they would like to thank everyone for the notes of encouragement, prayers, doggie treats and other items sent to Thor.
