Raceland teen advances on American Idol

(WVUE) - He's got a ticket to ride and Raceland cheered.

Last night, Raceland native Cameron Richard advance on American Idol, wowing the three-judge panel with a rendition of Ed Sheeran's "give Me Love."

Native New Orleanian Harris Connick, Jr. said "it's so great to hear that Louisiana accent, it's great to hear. You look like a young Paul McCartney when you sing."

With that Connick, along with judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban, voted to punch Richard's ticket to advance.

Richard was born with a cleft palate and doctors told him he would have speech problems. They also told him he would likely never be able to sing.

The judges clearly thought otherwise.
