SLIDESHOW: The worst drivers in America by state

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Whether you're commuting to work in the morning or picking someone up from the airport, chances are the worst driver in the world is right in front of you.

It may seem that way, but how can you know for sure? Car Insurance Comparison, a website made to help drivers compare insurance rates, took matters into their own hands and attempted to answer the question "Which state has the worst drivers?"

To find out, Car Insurance Comparison took statistics on fatal crashes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and put them into five categories:

Fatalities Rate per 100 Million Vehicle Miles Traveled

Failure to Obey (Percentage of Fatal Crashes that involved Traffic Signals, Not Wearing Seat Belts, and Driving with an Invalid Driver’s License)

Drunk Driving (Percentage of Fatal Crashes that Involved Alcohol)

Speeding (Percentage of Driving Fatalities that were Speed-Related)

Careless Driving (Pedestrian & Bicyclist Fatalities per 100,000 Population)

Each state was ranked (#51-1) in each of those categories and given points based on their rank resulting in the final numbers seen in the slideshow above.
