MANDEVILLE, LA (WVUE) -

Causeway Police issued a citation to Mandeville Mayor Donald Villere for urinating on the Causeway Bridge. The incident occurred Thursday around 8:45 p.m. at a crossover located near the 20 mile marker.

According to a Causeway Bridge spokesperson, Villere was the passenger in a car that was parked on the crossover. Villere was standing outside the car urinating when he was approached by a Causeway police officer. When questioned by the officer, Villere admitted that he was urinating on the bridge because he suffers from a medical condition.

Villere told FOX 8 that he has a history of bladder difficulties and in this instance he needed to go urgently. He said that he was completely covered and out of sight while urinating on the bridge.

The spokesperson says that Causeway officers gave Villere's friend, who was driving the car, a field sobriety test, which he passed. Villere admitted that alcohol was involved earlier in the evening, but says at the time of the incident, he and his friend were sober.

Villere told FOX 8 that he was surprised by the citation.
