NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The Krewe of Muses announced Monday that singer/songwriter and New Orleans resident Solange Knowles will be its 2016 Honorary Muse.
Knowles will lead the krewe's sixteenth parade on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The Krewe of Muses is an all female non-profit organization with more than 1,500 members. Every year the honorary muse is selected to honor a female role model who inspires the women of Muses by contributing to the arts and embodying the creative spirit of the nine original muses of Greek mythology.
"We are honored to have Solange Knowles at our 2016 Honorary Muse,"Captain Staci Rosenberg said."She embodies the spirit for which the Muses are known, and serves as an inspiration to all New Orleans girls and future Muses."
The songstress will ride in the Krewe of Muses' iconic shoe float, which is a 17-foot-tall red pump.
"It is a true and incredible honor to be the 2016 Honorary Muse," Knowles said in a news release. "I am immensely humbled to join such an inspiring organization that celebrates such diversity, leadership and philanthropy. This city has shown me the universe in ways I could never put in words, and I can't wait to celebrate all of it right on top of that red, high-heeled shoe."
The 2016 Muses parade will begin at the corner of Magazine St. and Jefferson Avenue, proceeding down Magazine to Napoleon Avenue. From there, it will proceed along the traditional St. Charles Avenue. route.
