CUT OFF, LA (WVUE) - A Cut Off man faces several charges after investigators said he physically abused a woman and stole from her.
Michael Cheramie Jr., 29, faces cruelty to the infirm, two counts of felony simple criminal damage to property, possession of carisoprodol, domestic abuse battery and two counts of theft.
On Friday just after 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at Cheramie's home on West 54th Street after receiving a call from a concerned neighbor. Investigators found Cheramie with the victim and learned that he had struck her in the face, knocking off and damaging her glasses, had used a key to damage the woman's car and had stolen jewelry and other items from her.
The Sheriff's Office said the cruelty charge stemmed from the woman's physical condition but did not elaborate. The office did not disclose the nature of the relationship between Cheramie and the victim.
Police said Cheramie admitted to several of the allegations during questioning and was also found to be in possession of the muscle relaxer Soma.
Cheramie was arrested and jailed at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He was also charged with a parole violation and is being held without bond.
