NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The Mississippi River is closed in New Orleans, according to the United States Coast Guard.
The coast guard confirmed the river is closed at mile marker 95, near the Crescent City Connection.
Just after midnight, one barge collided into others in a fleeting area. Five broke loose and not all of them are yet back in place. No injuries were reported.
The coast guard has received reports of a small oil leak, but has not confirmed that report as of yet. .
Canal Street Ferry is shut down because of the river closure. Ferry service will be replaced with terminal to terminal bus service effective immediately until the coast guard reopens river.
