(WVUE) - New Orleans hosts a city-wide day of health insurance enrollment.
The open enrollment period for the affordable care act ends on January 31. To encourage more people to sign up for insurance coverage, New Orleans residents have a chance to speak to representatives at 15 different locations around the city on Saturday.
This push is part of the White House's Healthy Communities Challenge accepted by Mayor Mitch Landrieu to promote the insurance marketplace.
"We cannot be the powerful city we all dream to be if we're not healthy, and we're not smart," Landrieu said during a news conference Friday.
"You can't get there without insurance. Now you have access to affordable insurance and all you gotta do is go get it, and make great choices in your life, and everything is gonna be better for it."
Representatives will be available at several libraries and fire stations around the metro area -- and even some bars.
