NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Clark Brennan, Captain of the Krewe of Bacchus, announced Friday that New Orleans-born actor Anthony Mackie will reign as Bacchus XLVIII.
Mackie is perhaps best known for his heroic turn in the Marvel franchise films "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Antman" and "Captain America: Civil War" as avian Avenger The Falcon. He can soon be seen starring opposite Kate Winslet and Woody Harrelson in "Triple 9."
The krewe said Mackie will bring a hometown love to the king's throne. Mackie attended Warren Easton High School and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
The theme of the 2016 parade is "Flights of Delight." Riders - 1,430 of them - will board 31 signature floats including. The parade will feature the United States Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard as well as marching bands, including the Southern University Marching Band, the Talladega Marching Band, the United States Marine Reserve Band and Color Guard and other local and out-of-state high school bands.
Bacchus will also carry out their theme through custom throws including eight light-up throws, special doubloons and Bacchus foam creations.
The parade rolls Feb. 7
