GMB Racing one step closer to Kentucky Derby

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Two of GMB Racing's prized thoroughbreds, Mo Tom and Tom's Ready, gained valuable points toward the Kentucky Derby after finishing 1-2 in the Lecomte Stakes Saturday. GMB is owned by Gayle Benson, wife of New Orleans Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson.

Twenty horses qualify for "The Run For The Roses", which is traditionally the first Saturday in May.

Mo Tom is currently seventh in the Kentucky Derby standing with 12 points. He received 10 for his win in the Lecomte, and two for his third place finish in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes in 2015.

Tom's Ready sits seventeenth in the Derby standings. The thoroughbred gained four points for his second-place finish in the Lecomte.

The leader in the standings, Nyquist, has 30 points after winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in Kentucky, and the Frontrunner Stakes in California.
