Pelicans exploring options with trade deadline one month away

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 18 and the Pelicans are open to a change, if it could help the team turn the 2015-16 season around after a dismal 13-26 start. | Times-Picayune Pelicans beat writer John Reid joined FOX 8's Final Play Sunday night to talk about the main object of the Pelicans' interest, Kings small forward Rudy Gay

"They already put in phone calls for him but the situation with Sacramento is that they want to deal. They don't mind dealing, but they want Ryan Anderson included in any situation, which is obvious. And when you look at what the situation is with trades, you look at the guy that has the most value and that's Ryan Anderson and you do have some expiring contracts in Eric Gordon, Norris Cole and those type of guys but in order to get dollar back from what you give, to get back, you're probably going to have to, in order to get that, you've got to unload Ryan Anderson and I believe right now, from what I've been told, that's a tough decision that they've got to make. Ultimately, that's going to be the decision that they have to make if they want to get talent back for the talent that they're giving away," Reid said.

Anderson is from central California and played his college ball at nearby Cal-Berkeley. In his fourth season in New Orleans, he is averaging 17.1 points per game on 43.9% FG shooting, including 38.7% from 3-point range. Gay has spent 9 years in the NBA with 3 different teams.

This season, he is averaging 18 points and nearly seven rebounds per game.
