NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - It was a horrific injury to witness, but it's now becoming an incredible comeback story. Southern University's Devon Gales continues to show progress in his rehabilitation after a severe spinal injury left his lower body paralyzed in September.
Jacques Doucet of WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge reports that Gales gained movement in his legs and toes will remain in Atlanta to continue his improvement.
Attempting to set a block on a kickoff return in the Jaguars' September match-up with the Georgia Bulldogs, Gales took a hit to his head and neck that left him down on the field motionless before being carted off. He was immediately embraced by then Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt, his wife and the Bulldog nation as one of their own.
He remained in the state to begin rehabilitation at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. The 22-year-old Gales continues to be in excellent spirit throughout his treatment.
