FBI: Cut fiber optics a possible terror attack against upcoming Super Bowl

(WVUE/FOX) -

Federal authorities are investigating recent attacks on fiber optic systems in northern California.
They found critical fiber optic cables in the San Francisco Bay area were deliberately severed.
It isn't clear who cut the cables but authorities fear the attacks could be linked to a "more complex plot" against the upcoming Super Bowl.

The F.B.I and Homeland Security want to know if the cases may be tests of an attack on the upcoming Super Bowl.

"If it was cut it would be a disaster," says Jeffrey Harper a retired F.B.I Assistant Special Agent. "This is a big event. This is the largest spectator event we have in America, the Super Bowl."

Harper also says an attack on fiber optics system can cause massive problems for the host city or Levi Stadium itself, potentially stopping the superbowl.
