SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A 16-year-old boy was hit and killed by a train while walking to school Wednesday morning in Slidell
According to the Slidell Police Department, a freight train struck 16-year-old James Pulsifer around 7 a.m. on Jan. 20 while he was walking to school. Police were called to the scene immediately after the fatal accident when a the Norfolk Southern train's conductor called authorities.
According to police, the conductor told authorities that Pulsifer was walking along the railroad tracks between Boulevard and Lafayette Streets with headphones over his ears. Police say the conductor tried to stop the train and alert Pulsifer, but it didn't work.
"This is a tragic accident which resulted in the loss of a young life," Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith said. "It's never easy to lose a loved one, but when it's someone so young, it makes it that much harder. Our prayers are extended to the family and friends of the victim."
