(WVUE) - A discrepancy of utility accounts led to the arrest of Crystal Folse, 38, the former clerk for the town of Pearl River.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said Pearl River Mayor David McQueen contacted the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office when he realized the amount recorded on customers' utility accounts didn't match the amount deposited into the town's bank account. An investigative audit was conducted into the town finances between January 2014 and August 2015.
The town fired Folse on Sept. 16, 2015.
When the audit findings were released on Jan. 6, deputies issued a warrant for Folse's arrest.
Folse, a resident of Picayune, Mississippi, turned herself in on Tuesday, and was booked for felony theft between $750 - $5,000.
