Suspect arrested after string of Uptown burglaries

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrested a man believed to be responsible for a string of home invasions in the Uptown area over the past several days.

He was caught allegedly breaking into a home early Thursday morning in the 800 block of Pine St.

Around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a call of a suspicious person who was seen breaking into a home in the area. Police say they observed the suspect, identified as Oliver Jerde, 22, inside the home stealing items.

The NOPD arrested Jerde on the scene.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Jerde's residence in the 800 block of Lowerline. They found various items reported stolen from several burglaries in the area, police said.

Based on the investigation, police booked the suspect with the following incidents:

  • Aggravated Burglary in the 1000 block of Lowerline reported on January 17, 2016;
  • Aggravated Burglary in the 1200 block of Lowerline reported on January 17, 2016; and
  • Residential Burglary in the 800 block of Pine Street reported on January 21, 2016.

The investigation is on-going and detectives are currently investigating Jerde's involvement in similar crimes reported in the area.
