Crime spikes in Slidell

SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - New statistics show a spike in overall crime in Slidell.

Uniform Crime Reports shows there was one homicide in Slidell in 2015 compared to no homicides in 2014. Other types of cases experiencing an uptick include robbery and assault.

"Although we experienced a slight increase in reported crime from 2014 to 2015 (+2.5%), I am proud to say that during the last two years, overall crime is still at a 10 year low," said Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith.  "I attribute this to our community outreach programs, proactive homeowners associations, our citizens' trust and willingness to cooperate with investigations, and the dedication of the men and women of the Slidell Police Department."

The police department reports the overall crime has fallen 28.6% since 2006.
