LSU's latest commitment grew up a Tiger fan

(WVUE) - Rashard Lawrence's commitment continued a banner week of recruiting for LSU. On Thursday, John Curtis offensive lineman Willie Allen went with the Tigers, and Friday's announcement in Monroe puts LSU on top in recruiting.

Three services that follow recruiting: 247, ESPN, and Scout, jumped LSU over Ohio State after Lawrence's verbal. A decision the five-star defensive lineman out of Neville didn't come to easily.

"I just decided today. I looked at the defensive coordinator LSU just got, and liked some things he was going to do with the new defensive line. The chance to play early, work with those guys, I know all the defensive lineman. To put in work with them is going to be fun," said Rashard Lawrence.

Lawrence is rated by 247 as the 23rd best player in the country, and fifth best at his position. With those kind of credentials, recruiters have been hot on his trail.

"It's been pretty stressful. I've enjoyed it up to this point, the last two to three weeks have been hectic. I've cried a lot, smiled a lot, but to have it over is good," said Lawrence.

It's no coincidence Neville's mascot is also a Tiger. Lawrence's love for the purple and gold started in pee-wee football, and has only matured through the years.

"I've grown up an LSU fan, watching them on TV. Knowing that one of my first games is going to be in that stadium is special," said Lawrence.

LSU isn't done yet with recruiting in Louisiana. Five-star cornerback Kristian Fulton out of Rummel isn't making his decision until National Signing Day in 12 days.
