SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - Three men were jailed after an armed man stopped a robbery at his Slidell-area home Sunday night.

Police said at about 9 p.m. one of the men approached a residence on Acacia Drive and asked to use the phone, claiming he was having car trouble.  When he tried to enter the home, the homeowner stopped him.

A second man who was wearing a mask came from behind some bushes and pointed a gun at the homeowner.  The homeowner pulled out his own pistol and exchanged gunfire with the suspects before the two men fled in a dark-colored pick-up truck.

Late Sunday, an abandoned pick-up truck was found on Morrison Road in New Orleans East.  The truck had a bullet hole in the rear passenger-side door and inside the cab police found a mask, duct tape and latex gloves.

Robert Steel, 30, of Slidell and Dustin Rupple, 21, of Lacombe were found early Monday morning at a home in Lacombe. They were booked in to the St. Tammany Parish Jail for attempted armed robbery with use of a firearm.

Anthony Ward, 24, of Slidell, was taken in to custody by NOPD at University Hospital, where he was being treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.  He was booked in to the Orleans Parish Prison as a fugitive. Once he is transported to St. Tammany Parish Jail, he will be booked with attempted armed robbery with use of a firearm

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.
