NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - A St. Bernard Parish deputy was injured Monday in a scuffle with a suspect after a chase into Orleans Parish, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.
The deputy, whose name wasn't released, sustained a leg injury and lacerations. He was taken to University Hospital.
The incident began at about 7:20 p.m. when narcotics officers tried to stop 26-year-old Chaz Davis outside a home in Arabi. Police said Davis refused to stop and led deputies on a chase onto Claiborne Avenue. Police said Davis struck the Claiborne Avenue Bridge and another vehicle before his car became disabled at Claiborne near Franklin Avenue. Davis got out and fled on foot but was captured by the deputy.
A portion of Claiborne Avenue was closed by New Orleans police.
Davis, who was not injured, was wanted on a warrant alleging marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He faces additional charges stemming from the pursuit.
