Black Restaurant Week launches in Memphis

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) -

Anyone who has ever been to Memphis knows that eating is serious business here. Trying new restaurants is a sport, so when I saw a Facebook post about "Memphis Black Restaurant Week", I had to bite.

Organizer Cynthia Daniels came to Memphis from Atlanta six years ago. She said she loves the city and had the idea after participating in "Downtown Dining Week," where restaurants lure customers with a set price for dinner. Daniels said it just made sense to launch a week showcasing black-owned restaurants.

Ten restaurants will participate in this year's inaugural "Memphis Black Restaurant Week".  It takes place March 7-13 around the city.

Daniels is revealing participating restaurants on the event's Facebook page. Restaurants already revealed include Dejavu Restaurant, HM Dessert Lounge, and The Office Uptown.  Dejavu Restaurant and HM Dessert Lounge will serve two course lunches for $15 and three course dinners for $25.  The Office Uptown will offer breakfast and lunch specials.

The rest of the list will be released in the new two weeks. My best advice is to save the dates and get ready to try some great dishes. And remember, this is a marathon --not a sprint.
