Losing eight of their nine regulars in last season’s starting lineup, the number one question going into the college baseball season for LSU is how will they reload their position players?
One freshman is already starting to garner attention: Antoine Duplantis. Head coach Paul Mainieri calls him sleeper and even compared him to last year’s All-SEC first team center fielder and second round draft pick Andrew Stevenson.
Coming from Lafayette High School, Duplantis earned first-team All-State honors and batted .453 with six home runs and 30 RBI his senior season. LSU athletics also runs in the family. His father, mother and older brother were all track athletes for the Tigers.
LSU baseball media day is this Friday, while the season begins on Feb. 19 at Alex Box Stadium against Cincinnati.
