Krewe of Orpheus - Feb. 8

Krewe of Orpheus - Feb. 8

The Krewe of Orpheus starts on Monday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. The parade begins at the intersection of Tchoupitoulas St. and Napoleon Ave.

The floats take the traditional Uptown route. It heads up Napoleon Ave. to St. Charles and makes a right towards the CBD. Bacchus makes a right on Canal St. and another right onto Tchoupitoulas St.

The krewe makes a left on Calliope St. and the final right onto Convention Center Blvd., ending by the Morial Convention Center.

The Wizard's Bestiary is the theme of Orpheus's 2016 procession. The krewe of 1,300 male and female members will ride 38 floats with the theme with subjects such as The Troll Under the Bridge, The Lambton Worm, and The Firebird. Legendary among Orpheus's floats are the Leviathan, and the ever-expanding Smokey Mary eight-tandem float, which holds 230 riders.

Look for new lighting and special effects on the Trojan Horse. Members of the George Rodrigue Foundation are guest riders on the Dolly Trolley. The Chariots of Orpheus will again appear, along with 60 original flambeaux.

This year's most collectible throws are special 2.5-inch silver music legends doubloons, LED leviathan hats, and Orpheus facemasks.

National celebrities will ride in the parade and perform inside the Morial Convention Center, where the 23rd annual Orpheuscapade also features entertainment by Party Crashers and No Limits.
