ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating two barge collisions along the Mississippi River that happened just 6 miles apart.
As of 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, crews were working to working to secure a barge that capsized near Hahnville, at river mile marker 129, after two towing vessels collided.
The barge was loaded with caustic soda but crews said there's no indication the chemical entered the water.
The Coast Guard closed 5 miles of the river, while crews work to recover the barge.
Just before noon, 10 barges broke loose near river mile marker 123. All of the barges in that incident are now secure.
