New Orleans police arrested Lesean Rozumialski, 23, and booked him with second degree cruelty to a juvenile, cruelty to a juvenile and aggravated battery.
The suspect told police he was in the living room of the residence in the 300 block of Huntlee Dr. when he stood up, threw a gun on a table and walked to the kitchen. The gun went off and struck the child in the stomach.
Family members inside the home told detectives they brought the child to the Winn Dixie supermarket in the 3000 block of Holiday Dr. and asked a sheriff's deputy to call EMS.
Medical workers arrived and brought the child to an area hospital. He is currently recovering from his injuries, according to the NOPD.
Investigators say Rozumialski admitted his actions caused the victim's injury.
