N.O. teen accused in carjacking, purse-snatching outside Esplanade Mall

KENNER, LA (WVUE) - A New Orleans teen was arrested Tuesday in connection with a carjacking outside the Esplanade Mall, according to Kenner Police.

Donte Moore, 18, who lives in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue, was booked with carjacking, purse snatching, simple criminal damage to property, and driving without a license.

Police said just before 3 p.m., a 68-year-old woman was getting out of her 2011 Nissan 370 when she was she was approached by Moore. Moore allegedly grabbed the victim's purse, causing her to fall. The victim's purse contained the smart key/ ignition remote to her car, and Moore fled in the victim's vehicle.

Responding officers found Moore driving in the 3000 block of Ohio Street. They said he tried to elude them, but ended up crashing into a fence in the 3100 block of Helena Street, where he was taken into custody.  The victim said an accomplice had dropped Moore off at the mall, but that person was not found.

The victim received a shoulder injury, contusions and abrasions to her wrist and legs. She was treated and released from the hospital.

Moore remains in custody. No bond has been set
