Mo Tom prepares for next big race

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Mo Tom was back on the track, Sunday, for his first workout since winning the Lecomte Stakes.

According to a release from the New Orleans Fair Grounds, Mo Tom worked a nice half-mile in 48.20 for trainer Tom Amoss.

Amoss indicated that he was pleased with the drill and that the dark bay colt is on course for the second of three Fair Grounds Kentucky Derby preps – the Risen Star Stakes on February 20th.

Now a two-time stakes winner, Mo Tom also won the $80,000 Street Sense Stakes on Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs over G M B Racing-owned and Dallas Stewart-trained Tom’s Ready. The two horses are owned by Gayle Benson, the wife of Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson, and each once again filled out the exacta in the Lecomte.

They are both being aimed for a fourth meeting in the Risen Star, according to their respective conditioners.

The Saints have hit the halfway mark of the preseason, and the final 53 man roster is getting clearer. Here's my view at this point in time.  QB (2) Drew Brees Chase Daniel There is no reason for the Saints to keep more than two quarterbacks. It’s obvious who those quarterbacks should be. RB (4) Mark Ingram Adrian Peterson Alvin Kamara Daniel Lasco No change here. FB (1) John Kuhn Once again, easy call. WR (5)  Willie Snead Michael Thomas Ted G...more>>

It's been four long years since John Curtis lifted a state championship trophy in the Dome. The senior class of the Patriots doesn't own a ring, which is unheard of , since Curtis posses 26 state titles. The squad doesn't want to be a part of history, but that's not the main focus in summer drills. "I think certainly their goals are to reach a state championship, and have an opportunity to compete for it. No we don't make it an emphasis point," said John Curtis Head Fo...more>>

In this edition of FFF, I take a look at Alabama's history of being preseason ranked No. 1 under Nick Saban, soccer shows us you can go home, and my tiny obsession with fountain drinks. FOOTBALL Stop me if you heard this before, but Alabama is ranked No. 1 in the country. This time, the AP college football preseason poll anointed the Tide. I know, I know, fans of other schools are getting tired of this, and I have a simple idea to fix it, beat them on the field. Fear not those who ...more>>
